Modernist mansion from 1905 under renovation in Sant Cugat

Casa Calado is a modernist building built by the Catalan architect Eduard M. Balcel i Buigas in 1905. It is located in the Torre Negra sector, in the municipality of Sant Cugat del Vallès in the province of Barcelona and is part of the Catalan Architectural Heritage List, home to the magnificent medieval building of Torre Negra, a military structure in Romanesque style dating from the 12th century. Its name comes from the dark color of the stones of its walls.

The house with an area of 704 m² is built on a plot of 7.029 m² according to the land registry. The Calado House, with its rectangular floor plan, features woven ironwork on railings, doors and grilles. Also noteworthy are the large windows, majolica details with modernist motifs, experiments with materials to create new effects, such as a pilaster base in the form of a petrified trunk or gate pilasters made from pallets and stone mixed with mortar.

On the ground floor there are bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living rooms.

The second floor is an open space with access to the tower of the house, offering a beautiful view of the whole of Valles. It is worth noting the tower with a folded Dutch roof, the belvedere and its railings. Cornices and frieze on the facade. Windows with casements and bars. Modernist washbasin. Windmill tower. Gate pilasters. The garden gate has an iron lattice with Art Nouveau decor. In the center of the roof is a square body with intersecting double sloping roofs, also decorated with ceramics.

The large garden has a fountain, pond and well. The house is located in a beautiful area of the local park Torre Negra, which is an agroforestry area of great ecological, landscape and natural value with a rich flora and fauna.

The house is located between the center of Sant Cugat del Valles and the Collserola Natural Park. This is an ideal place for relaxation, sports, cycling or horse riding.
